Gil Mitchell was born and raised in tiny Red Bud, Illinois, home of the largest Mega Millions winner in Illinois history. So you could say his current job as the Lottery Jackpot Anchor was destiny. Gil left his parents' dairy farm (his tiny hands were deemed too soft and dainty) to pursue his dream of delivering the evening news.
At State U, Gil double-majored in Journalism and Hair Care. Upon graduation, he started his broadcasting career at a small station in the Quad Cities, where he created the wildly popular evening talk show, "Gil's Sizzle Seat!" -- where local movers and shakers actually sat in a seat heated to 120 degrees and answered Gil’s penetrating questions.
Gil's next stop in his meteoric rise was in Rockford where he anchored the morning news. In Rockford, Gil earned a reputation for a hard-nosed reporter with impeccable style, as he famously blew the lid off the city's kitten grooming ring. And then, in 2012, when the Illinois Lottery needed a model citizen and trusted voice of the people, they gave Gil Mitchell a call.
And boy did he answer.
